South Sudan continues to face one of the most complex humanitarian crises in the world. Years of conflict, recurrent flooding, disease outbreaks, and deepening food insecurity have left millions of people struggling to meet their most basic needs. In some of the hardest-hit areas, families remain displaced, health systems are overstretched, and protection risks, particularly for women, children, and other vulnerable groups, are on the rise. The scale and severity of these challenges demand urgent, coordinated, and life-saving interventions.

Coalition for Humanity (CH) is implementing a six-month integrated project to deliver frontline health services, protection support, and emergency shelter and non-food items (NFIs) to crisis-affected populations in Mayendit, Leer, and Fangak Counties. The project is funded under the South Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SSHF). It is designed to reach over 44,000 individuals, including internally displaced persons and vulnerable host communities, with timely and essential assistance.

At the heart of the response is a commitment to ensure that communities in hard-to-reach and underserved areas can access lifesaving healthcare. In Mayendit County, CH is implementing a combination of static and mobile health services to bring care closer to those who need it most. These services include outpatient consultations, diagnosis and treatment of common illnesses including malaria and cholera, vaccination for children, and maternal and newborn healthcare. The project also integrates mental health and psychosocial support, recognizing the profound emotional toll that conflict and displacement have on individuals and families.

Beyond health, the project places a strong emphasis on protection to ensure that people’s safety, dignity, and human rights are protected in the most challenging circumstances. In Leer and Fangak Counties, CH is delivering a range of protection services, including support for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), child protection case management, and community-based awareness and engagement initiatives. Women and Girls Friendly Spaces are being strengthened to provide safe environments where women and girls can access support, share experiences, and begin to recover from trauma. At the same time, community structures are being engaged and strengthened to identify risks early, promote awareness, and support referral pathways for those in need.

Access to safe shelter and essential household items remains a critical priority for families affected by displacement. CH is supporting households in Leer and Fangak to rebuild safer living conditions and meet their immediate needs with dignity. This will be achieved through the distribution of emergency shelter kits and NFIs, as well as targeted cash assistance. These interventions provide physical protection from the elements and help restore a sense of stability and normalcy for families who have lost nearly everything through forced displacement.

What sets this response apart is its integrated approach. It is incorporating health, protection, and shelter support to address the multiple, overlapping needs that communities face. By combining these services, CH is delivering holistic support that saves lives, strengthens resilience, and promotes recovery.

As implementation gets underway, CH remains committed to working closely with communities, local authorities, and humanitarian partners to ensure that assistance is delivered in a safe, accountable, and inclusive manner. Through this project, Coalition for Humanity reaffirms its commitment to the vision of a self-reliant, poverty-free, and socially just society with the capacity to solve its challenges and meet its day-to-day needs.
